Hi! I’m Sydnie and I am the founder of Little Brook. Here is a little bit of backstory about me: my life has been a plethora of trying to figure out what my career or life will be. I started as a hairdresser, worked as a receptionist, administrative assistant, opened a bakery, and now I am a stay-at-home mom. My life has always had a bigger driving force than my job: supporting my husband and in the long run, my family. Not in a trad-wife sort of way, just that he had more drive and a more direct path, so it always felt like mine could just, well, wait.

My husband transitioned from the Marines to college, then to law school, and now is a full-fledged lawyer. I am incredibly proud of him and the things that I did to help him get there. We have been married since his second year in the Marine Corps, so all through college and law school, I was the one supporting him. We had our daughter at the beginning of his second year of law school, so I worked full time from home and watched her full-time the whole first year and a half of her life. Once he got his “big boy lawyer job”, I quit. I was burnt out and just wanted to enjoy my baby, well now toddler.

Enter Little Brook. While I was a stay-at-home mom to a baby and toddler, I felt very isolated. My friends didn’t have kids my daughter's age, and I wasn’t getting as much help from my family as I needed. When I worked from home, all I wanted was a place where I could go with my daughter that was reasonably priced, and I could work while she played nearby. I needed something to break up the monotony of being at home. I found a play cafe near my house, but there were definitely things that I wanted to improve upon.

That was about 2 years ago and, since then, I have never stopped wanting this idea. We are in a place financially and logistically to finally make good on it.

Here’s the Little Brook difference that I want in my play space. I want to foster a sense of community. I loved the play cafe I went to, but other moms were always very busy and never really wanted to make friends. I wanted connections. I wanted to build my village. That’s what I aim to do with Little Brook. I hope to become a community gathering place in Bolingbrook that encourages families to meet, link up, and build friendships, all while drinking amazing coffee while their kids build social and imaginative skills.
